Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated individual to join the Anticoagulation Service at UHDB as an Anticoagulation Specialist Nurse. The post encompasses all areas of anticoagulation, and the successful applicant will be caring for patients who are at risk of, or being treated for, a variety of different blood clots. This includes assessing INR results and advising patients how much warfarin to take, as well as ensuring other anticoagulated patients are safe on Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) and Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH). The post is mainly telephone-based, but we also see patients in person and communicate with them in writing. Main duties of the job Providing warfarin dosing advice to patients Anticoagulation counselling Telephone advice and guidance Specialist point of contact for health professionals, patients and their families Performing INR tests The anticoagulation service has undergone, and continues to undergo, a period of extensive change over the past few years, and we are looking for someone who would enjoy a new challenge to become as passionate about anticoagulation safety as we are There is an expectation that the successful applicant will already hold the Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or be prepared to begin the course within the first year of their new post. The position involves working alongside other specialist nurses, admin staff, laboratory teams, consultants, hospital doctors and nurses, carers, GPs and community nursing teams, to provide high quality care and support to outpatients throughout Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
