Reporting to:
Engineering Manager
Purpose of the role:
Working with a team of experienced RF, electronics and mechanical engineers you will contribute to the design of radio frequency products, with responsibility for analogue and digital circuit design, schematic capture and PCB layout, ensuring that electrical performance, quality, cost and manufacturability requirements are met.
Summary of Responsibilities :
1. Together with inputs provided by our team of RF engineers, you will design and layout electronic circuits incorporating mixed technologies for telecommunications and defence products.
2. You will be specifically responsibility for the design of:
3. Low voltage module power supplies including linear and switch mode PSUs.Component bias circuitsAnalogue circuits including signal conditioning, filters, op-amps. Digital circuits utilising glue logic, ADCs, DACs & microprocessors.
4. Detailed analogue and digital electronic circuit specification and design including component selection and circuit simulation.
5. Definition of circuit board requirements including materials and layer stack-up.
6. Schematic generation and PCB layout – including preparation and implementation of best practice design flow procedures, library management, BoM generation and control.
7. Delivery of fully verified and documented designs in line with project defined technical, schedule and cost constraints.
8. Thermal, MTBF and component derating analysis.
9. Completion and checking of design documentation, for example: design logbooks, data packs, peer review etc. in preparation for design release and production.
10. Communicate and negotiate design specs and changes with PCB vendors and CEM subcontractors
11. Undertake design verification and validation including preparation of test specifications, test reports and reliability testing/evaluation in our fully equipped labs.
12. Pro-actively participate in design reviews and to initiate design reviews in order to mitigate risk when appropriate.
13. Handle component obsolescence issues and propose suitable alternatives.
14. Problem-solving and fault diagnosis of manufactured products during product introduction, including definition and train-out of diagnostic procedures.
15. To meet departmental objectives as allocated by Team Leader.
The successful candidate will satisfy the following requirements:
16. Relevant Degree (or equivalent).
17. Experience in circuit schematic, multi-layer, mixed-technology layout and manufacturing pack generation using Altium Designer.
18. Demonstrable experience of component level electronic circuit design, layout, and development.
19. An awareness of high-volume surface mount process / technologies and design for high volume manufacture .
20. Excellent hands-on measurement and diagnostic skills using electronic and RF test equipment.
21. Ability to conduct minor SMT reworks down to 0402 component size desirable.
22. Experience of RF / microwave electronic circuit design and implementation desirable.
