Whitley Bay Health Centre is a local GP Practice providing primary care and community health care services to the people of Whitley Bay. We plan, deliver and commission a wide range of health care and treatment to meet the health needs of local people and we are looking to recruit people who can meet our expectations of delivering a first class health service to the people of Whitley Bay.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and reliable individual to join our busy practice team.
Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8.30am-5.00pm.
Previous experience in a similar NHS environment preferred but not essential.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will act as first point of contact for patients, staff and visitors and must possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. The main duties will include booking appointments, taking telephone enquiries and undertaking reception duties, all requiring extensive use of the computerised patient administration system.
Job responsibilities
1. Booking, cancelling and revising appointments for patients for a variety of healthcare professionals within the health centre.
2. Registering patient arrivals within the health centre.
3. Answering the telephone, transferring calls and taking messages.
4. Taking enquiries and requests for repeat medication from patients.
5. Keeping waiting area a safe environment for all users.
6. Dealing with incoming and outgoing post.
7. Filing patient notes, both electronic and paper.
8. Dealing with new and temporary patient registrations.
9. Ensuring all letters and samples are ready for courier collection.
10. Updating patient demographic changes on the system.
11. Liaising with other support services when needed.
12. Any other reasonable duties.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of general education.
* Confident and competent using computerised systems.
* Systmone User.
Experience
* Previous experience of working in a busy office/reception area.
* Experience of handling confidential and sensitive information.
* Experience working as a GP receptionist.
* Sound understanding of confidential issues.
