ABOUT HMP Standford Hill HMP Standford Hill is a Category D prison, holding approximately 500 adult male sentenced offenders. The site of HMP Standford Hill prison was the first home of British aviation. Standford Hill is an open prison for men. It is one of 3 prisons that form the Sheppey Cluster in Kent, along with HMP Elmley and HMP Swaleside. HMP Standford Hill’s focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational based training and education, in a pro social environment. Courses at HMP Standford Hill include Maths, English, Steps to the Gate, First Aid L3, Health & Safety L2, CSCS and Art. We also support distance learning through the virtual campus, working alongside Open University, Prison Education Trust and many more. The education delivery hours are Monday to Thursday 8.15am - 11.30am, 1:15pm - 4.45pm and on Fridays 8.15am - 11.30am, with staff working on-site 8:00am - 5:00pm each day and 8:00am - 12pm on Fridays. Class sizes typically range from 8-12 learners. Commuter information: Regular trains from Sittingbourne onto the island. Transfer to the 360 bus at Queenborough or 373L bus from Sheerness. There is plenty of parking on site.
