Coolings Nurseries have four garden centres - two in Knockholt, Kent, one in Bearsted near Maidstone in Kent and one in Wych Cross, near East Grinstead and on the edge of the Ashdown Forest. All are located in beautiful, natural countryside settings. We are seeking an Events Manager to project-manage the business' events programme. Working closely with the senior management and marketing teams, this role will lead and manage key events in our calendar, sometimes multiple events simultaneously (but not typically) and be responsible for end-to-end planning, event execution (onsite) and post event analysis. Events will include horticulture and garden-related shows, forums, workshops, webinars and networking opportunities as well as social and seasonal events In addition, the role also undertakes the strategic planning and implementation of operational plans to ensure our events are above average and competitive. Key responsibilities: You will be involved in a variety of duties, including but not limited to: Promoting the company through events and community activities related to both gardening and varied events such as theatre in the garden and hobbyist themed events Organising shows, interacting and networking with organisations in the community, liaising with schools to promote the business through sponsorship and work experience activities, organise and/or assist with competitions, environmental and recycling initiatives, Christmas events and entertainment, employee events, social and other ad hoc events as required Keeping abreast of contemporary event management and coming up with innovative ideas on a regular basis to ensure optimum quality with great attention to detail to deliver events that are well-run, successful in terms of outcomes and memorable for the people attending them (which means repeat attendance and customers at future events) Recruiting and managing employees working on events – these might be people who work on a short-term basis during busy periods or be full-time members of staff from other internal teams Setting clear objectives and targets, alongside operational plans for how to meet these and carrying out admin duties such as booking suppliers, accommodation, transport and producing reports and information lists (attendees lists, etc.) through systems, apps or spreadsheets Liaising with customers to discuss production plans, orders and other aspects of events, gathering feedback and post-event data (on sales, attendance or sign-ups to company website, discount cards) and using it to inform decisions or future plans, promotions and events Compilation of and working within a budget, ability to drive sales in line with set budgets, and manage and control spend as well as wastage Problem-solving and hosting during an event Keen awareness of and attention to ensuring appropriate Health & Safety adherence at all times. Requirements: 3-5 years of relevant experience in B2B and B2C event management, in-person events While experience working in an events management role is preferable, we would also be keen to meeting suitable candidates with experience in a management role in a retail or other customer-centric / customer service business environment, whose applications will also be welcomed An event management qualification is desirable, but not essential Experience in dealing with events such as shows, exhibitions, forums, workshops, webinars and networking opportunities and similar events attended by the general public is essential Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders (Managing Director and Board) Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously You must be passionate about delivering events, enjoy working indoors and outdoors (sometimes in all weathers) and happy to get stuck into other duties as the business continues to change and develop You will operate with high levels of energy and enthusiasm, working well on your own as well as able to lead and manage others in a fast-paced environment, taking initiative without hesitation A hands-on approach exhibiting confidence and enthusiasm, leading by example and be able to motivate and delegate tasks efficiently. Must be able to juggle, with lots of things happening at the same time, and be able to deal with unexpected actions on the fly Be prepared to be flexible and work at least 6-7 weekends per year (maybe more), especially on weekends on or around events that are taking place. The days on even weekends may be long, due to the nature of the events. Some evening work may also be required Clean driving licence and own reliable transport with a willingness to travel between our 4 sites as well as other locations as may be required from time to time. Please be aware that public transport is not reliable in getting to Coolings.
