Gap personnel have an exceptional opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join a well-established client based in Hengoed. The ideal candidate will have experience operating workshop equipment, maintaining manufacturing tools and fixtures, and supporting process modifications and tooling changeovers. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of manufacturing processes while upholding the highest safety and quality standards. This will be a 6-month contract role. Working hours 7am - 3pm Monday to Friday, with the possibility of some weekend overtime (x1.5 hourly rate on Saturday and x2 hourly rate on Sunday). The hourly rate will be £14 - £18 per hour Key Responsibilities: • Operate and maintain workshop equipment including lathes, milling machines, and other precision tools. • Develop, fabricate, and maintain equipment, jigs, and fixtures in compliance with safety and quality standards. • Support process modifications and tooling changeovers to improve efficiency and reliability. • Conduct repair and modification work on mechanical components and assemblies. • Read and interpret engineering drawings and schematic diagrams to support fabrication and maintenance tasks. • Troubleshoot and optimise process systems such as bowl feeding, walking beam, and pick-and-place mechanisms. • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement process improvements and ensure seamless manufacturing operations. • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, modifications, and repairs. • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations within the manufacturing environment. Essential Skills and Experience: • NVQ/BTEC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field. • Proven experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment with hands-on experience using lathes, milling machines, and similar equipment. • Good knowledge of mechanical systems, tooling, and process modifications. • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and schematic diagrams. • Experience with automation and process systems such as bowl feeding, walking beam, and pick-and-place operations. • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. • Organisational and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
