You will work as part of an established team reporting to the R&D Manager defining and delivering future photonic technologies and products. If you’re excited by new technologies, are naturally creative and passionate about seeing ideas come to life then this is the ideal research role for you.
About the role - you will:
Utilizing our state-of-the-art clean room fabrication facility and cutting-edge manufacturing processes, you will be responsible for developing innovative processes for integrating semiconductor wafers into optical components. Collaborating closely with the device design and process teams, you will transform photonic device prototypes into reliable, stable, and manufacturable components. You will work alongside a diverse team of engineers to tackle challenging problems with real commercial impact.
You will:
1. Lead the process development and integration of photonic devices for new products.
2. Provide technical expertise in bonding techniques, thermal management, and interconnect strategies for heterogeneous integration.
3. Oversee the development and optimization of fabrication processes to ensure high yield and performance of integrated photonic devices.
4. Ensure all integration processes and products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
5. Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate project progress and results to internal and external stakeholders.
6. Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in photonics and optoelectronics, incorporating relevant advancements into project work.
7. Project plan and collaborate with adjacent teams and internal customers.
About you:
Your experience includes:
1. Minimum of 3 years of experience working in process engineering, with a focus on photonics, gained through industry or laboratory roles.
2. Extensive knowledge of photonic device fabrication & IC layout, including lithography, etching, deposition, and verification tools.
3. Expertise in one or more applications of integrated photonics, such as laser arrays, 3D printing, uLED displays, communications & sensing.
4. Hands-on experience of optical testing and characterization techniques.
5. Expertise in 2.5D, 3D & heterogeneous integration of compound semiconductor devices, including bonding techniques, thermal management, and interconnect strategies.
You are:
1. A good communicator with excellent presentation and written skills.

3. Able to set own course in projects and make timely decisions.
4. Motivated and excited by technology and the challenge of going beyond.
5. Able and willing to introduce own ideas and solutions for technology progression.
Your experience includes:
1. PhD in Optics, Physics, Electro Optics, or related Engineering fields.
2. Experience with free-space optics, advanced laser measurements, and thermal modeling.
3. Experience of customer/supplier relations and working within multi-discipline project teams.
4. Practical photonic integrated circuit packaging, wire bonding, and fiber attach experience.
5. Demonstrated success in the preparation of technical proposals, publications, and patents.
6. Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver, knowledge in 6 Sigma tools.
