Job responsibilities
The overall job purpose of the Sister/Charge Nurse is to provide clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing and multidisciplinary team. This includes acting as a clinical leader and expert practitioner liaising, guiding and advising the multidisciplinary team in the provision of optimum patient care. This will require the Sister/Charge Nurse to regularly review the clinical records of patients under their sphere of responsibility, to evaluate the effectiveness of the standard of care planning and delivery, and to use the results to work with the team to improve patient outcomes.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with live NMC Pin.
* Previous experience at a senior level.
* Post basic relevant study equivalent to degree level or willingness to complete.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development.
* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. ENB 998 or mentorship qualification)
Physical Skills
* Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs.
* Able to provide personal care for patients in a ward environment.
* Proven teaching ability and experience of being an effective mentor/preceptor or facilitator.
* Evidence of involvement with quality improvement in clinical areas.
* Demonstrated an understanding of quality and clinical governance issues.
Abilities
* Ability to motivate and lead the ward team and maintain good working relationships.
* Ability to supervise junior staff and maintain high standards of care.
Communication Skills
* Evidence of good written and oral communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
