Main duties of the job
1. Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient-oriented approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within relevant guidelines.
2. Ensure the delivery of care to all patients meets the standards set by yourself and the Trust.
3. Take responsibility for ensuring the highest standards of infection prevention and control are maintained at all times.
4. Demonstrate a high level of commitment and enthusiasm for research, evidence-based practice, audit, and education in the clinical area.
5. Actively contribute to reconfiguration projects, service redesign developments, and Divisional business planning as required.

Job responsibilities
The bereavement support nurse, as a clinical specialist, will provide support to families who have experienced the death of a baby within the neonatal setting. This will commence at the decision for palliative care/redirection of care, supporting through the baby's death and continuing once the family has gone home.
The post holder will provide guidance and support to nursing and medical staff when caring for families experiencing neonatal death.
They will assist in the coordination of care given to ensure consistency of high care leading to a high-quality seamless service.
The post holder will be expected to work clinically supporting staff to provide care to these babies and their families, ensuring families are supported through the process, following guidelines, coordinating, and attending follow-up clinics. Coordinating with external agencies, ensuring that all aspects of the neonatal process are correctly completed.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Neonatal Qualified in Speciality (QIS)
* Degree / at least evidence of study at degree level
* Mentorship qualification with sign-off status
Knowledge & Experience
* Band 6 held for at least 2 years
* Experience supporting and working directly with intensive care neonates and their families
* Experience of multi-disciplinary working
* Ability to recognize deviation from the normal and know what action to take
* Understanding the complexity of providing clinical care while providing the sensitivity of bereavement management
* Awareness of key issues currently impacting neonatal care
