The salary for this permanent Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist job is £43,742 - £56,056 per annum.

Main Duties:
* Operate independently within a specialised clinical area, leveraging advanced skills and knowledge in neurological rehabilitation. You may work as the sole clinician with remote supervision from a senior Occupational Therapist, and will be accountable for your professional practice.
* Manage and prioritise a diverse caseload of service users with complex mental and physical health needs or challenging behaviours, ensuring effective care delivery.
* Execute the full Occupational Therapy process by applying evidence-based and service user-centred approaches. Assess, develop treatment plans, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes, using your specialist expertise for more intricate cases.
* Address deficits in occupational performance and skills, supporting service users in self-maintenance, productivity, education, and leisure activities.
* Design and oversee care programmes, ensuring comprehensive handovers to rehabilitation support workers or therapy assistants. Track progress through data collection, adjust treatments as needed, and ensure the effectiveness of interventions in line with the neurobehavioural model.
* Delegate tasks based on team members' competencies, and take responsibility for handovers, monitoring, and reviewing their progress.
* Use advanced interpersonal skills and empathy to engage service users and families who may be resistant or distressed, facilitating their involvement in the rehabilitation process.
* Conduct detailed risk assessments, particularly for complex issues, and ensure these are regularly updated. Communicate risk management plans effectively with the team.
* Maintain precise and thorough documentation according to Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) guidelines, and produce professional reports showcasing your specialised knowledge.
* Work sensitively and flexibly with service users, their families, and external agencies, adapting to their needs, circumstances, and cultural considerations. Uphold the highest standards of integrity in all communications.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, bringing specialised knowledge, actively participating in meetings, engaging in shared decision-making, and contributing to the development of user-centred therapeutic goals that align with the overall rehabilitation plan.
* Employ advanced critical thinking skills to make professional judgments and communicate these effectively, even in complex or unpredictable situations.
* Support the clinical lead with specific service users by maintaining communication with families and external agencies, coordinating rehabilitation programmes, and facilitating discharge planning.
* Assess, issue, and refer for necessary equipment, ensuring appropriate training for staff, service users, and families, and completing all relevant risk assessments.
* Plan, implement, and evaluate goal-oriented group interventions, and maintain an overview of group intervention needs within the service.
* Provide guidance on social and lifestyle needs, including referrals to additional agencies and services.
* Adhere to infection control and health and safety guidelines to manage conditions related to service user contact, such as exposure to bodily fluids or infectious diseases.
Requirements of the Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist:
* A degree in Occupational Therapy or a similar qualification.
* Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Show proof of relevant postgraduate courses and ongoing professional development (CPD).
* Be skilled in evidence-based practice and using outcome measures.
* Use advanced clinical reasoning for therapy assessments and interventions.
* Be able to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
* Confidently assess and manage risks related to therapy services.
