Bereavement Rainbow Officer for Maternity
This is an exciting opportunity to work with our dedicated bereavement and rainbow team. (The rainbow team supports women and families in a subsequent pregnancy following pregnancy loss.) The team is a small and friendly group who work tirelessly to provide the best care and support for families at a very vulnerable time.
It is a part-time administration role to support the clinicians in the team. This will involve telephone and face-to-face communication with families in our care and working with the multidisciplinary team of consultants, midwives, and support workers. One main aspect will be responsible for overseeing and updating the Pregnancy after Loss Pathways Excel database for the Rainbow cohort of patients.
This role is 15 hours per week over 2-3 days
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure data input and timely booking & oversight of appointments in line with each Pregnancy after Loss pathway of care following referral and triage throughout the pathway of care.
2. Administrative support is provided including booking of all appointments and liaising with families in relation to their pregnancy after loss pathways of care.
3. To provide written, telephone, and text communication with families to confirm planned and required appointments, liaising with families directly as required.
4. To assist the team to ensure all administrative aspects of planned or required care are undertaken, communicated with families, and updated on EPR and other necessary IT systems, liaising closely with the main maternity administration team as required.
5. Ensure stationery and relevant resources are kept at an agreed level.
6. Ensure photocopying, filing, and shredding of documentation (as per Trust or local policy).
7. Filing of notes and associated documentation prior to the return of files to Maternity Records.
8. Compile and present in a written format statistics as required for audit and research purposes.
9. Assist with the preparation of notes and other documentation as required.
10. To act as a point of contact for families, in addition to monitoring team emails and mobile telephones, responding directly or referring to relevant members of the team as appropriate.

The bereavement and rainbow team are well-established teams within the maternity unit who have been recognized for the incredible work they do. Recently, by improving care pathways for women who have had a previous loss, they have reduced stillbirth by 50%.
They are a driven team striving through research, audit, and working with other organizations such as Tommy's to improve care and outcomes.

The role can be flexible hours, 15 hours during the day, Monday-Friday. Flexibility can be discussed at interview.
Job responsibilities
1. Demonstrate excellent & compassionate personal communication skills. Undertake direct patient contact in a non-clinical capacity with the ability to conduct sensitive conversations as required. Establish and maintain effective two-way communication channels with individuals and groups, to include but not limited to the other maternity teams and the mortuary team, funeral directors, support groups, other hospitals, and the chaplaincy team.
2. Assisting with the completion of team-specific documentation, including Rainbow care plan documents, funeral and post-mortem paperwork, Health Visitor referrals, and liaison with GPs and Community Midwives.
3. Supporting the team in implementing Trust-wide and local projects affecting the Rainbow and Bereavement Service and participating in national events relating to the provision and development of Bereavement and Rainbow care across the UK.
4. The post holder must be aware of the sensitive nature of the information they will be required to communicate in their day-to-day work. The post holder will be expected to communicate these issues in an appropriate and timely manner and ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Person Specification
Administration
* GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
* ECDL or equivalent
* At least 12 months experience in an administrative role
* Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
* Experience of liaising with internal and external customers
* RSA II
* Appointment booking and scheduling experience
Compassion
* An understanding of and ability to communicate with families during grief and trauma
* Experience dealing with confidential information
