Colchester's Urgent Treatment Centre is located at the front of Colchester Hospital and manages patients that need both Urgent and Emergency care. The UTC see, treat and discharge patients or stream patients to the most suitable service dependant on their needs, including ED. The UTC is open 7am to midnight, 7 days a week, but have Reception cover 24 hours a day. We treat both walk-in and ambulatory patients whose injuries or illnesses are not so serious as to need full emergency department care.
We are looking for an experienced receptionist to join the service to work as part of a team providing an efficient and effective reception service 24/7 to patients and visitors attending the Urgent Treatment Centre. The reception team also assist the Emergency Department team and will be expected to cover the ED Major reception as and when needed.
You will be confident in dealing with issues of confidentiality and able to provide a high level of customer care, ensuring patients details are accurately recorded and the relevant documentation generated to support safe patient care. This position is instrumental in creating a good ‘first impression’ of both the Trust and the Department.
We have set shifts available, mainly Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The shifts are 0700-1500, 1500-2300 and 2300-0700. These may be subject to change.
This is a fixed term or secondment position until 31st December 2025. Internal candidates will be offered a secondment position only.
• Booking in patients to both the UTC and ED, using SystmOne and Careflow
• Recording accurate and precise data on to a Patients record.
• First Point of contact for patients, both face to face and via telephone
• Directing or accompanying relatives looking for patients within both ED and UTC
• Answering queries over the phone
• Scanning relevant documentation on to the patients records
• Monitoring the 111 appointment booking system and ensuring Clinical co-ordinator is aware of issues
• Liaising with the clinical staff ensuing patients requests are met
• Good communication Skills
• Cheerful and friendly
• Check and understand patients vital sign
• Any additional Administration tasks on request
