About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Targeted Support Team (Resident Experience and Localities, Communities Division) as a Welfare Benefits Officer. You will primarily focus on reviewing and maximising a resident’s income when they are in receipt of an adult social care service from the Council. This is a new role, and the successful candidate can help shape it whilst working as part of an excellent team of like-minded colleagues.
About The Team You’ll Be Working In
The Targeted Support Team assist some of the most vulnerable residents in Hounslow directly and by exclusively referring residents for Floating Support. The team comprises of a Team Lead (all Officers report directly to them), 2 x Targeted Support Officers (Community) & 1 x Targeted Support Officer (West Middlesex University Hospital Early Discharge).
A key focus of the team is to provide early intervention to help residents find local solutions by collaborating with Community Hub Advisors, Revenue & Benefits, teams within Liberata and specialist voluntary sector partners. We aim to provide support that is person centred, holistic and integrated. This support will require a blend of remote and in-person visits (community spaces/resident’s homes).
The Welfare Benefits Officer will support residents who are receiving adult social care services to maximise their income (likely via Welfare Benefit applications), which in turn will help contribute to the achievement of the Council's income priorities.
About You
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supporting residents who are receiving adult social care services to maximise their income (likely via Welfare Benefit applications).
2. Work closely with colleagues across the Council and our partner agencies to help share good practice and embed a culture of supporting some of our most vulnerable residents.
3. Find safe & sustainable solutions to maintain resident’s independence and resilience within the wider Targeted Support Team.
4. Maintain thorough and detailed case records with a good attention to detail, ensuring a full audit trail is maintained to facilitate internal and external audits.
5. Promote equality of opportunity and recognition of diversity in the delivery of services.
Your Skills:
1. Proven working knowledge of Welfare Benefit applications & process (Key - Attendance Allowance, Universal Credit, Personal Independent Payment, Carers Allowance, Housing Benefit, Council Tax, Employment & Support Allowance & Pension Credit).
2. Effective communication skills and ability to communicate internally and externally with residents and professionals, and other key stakeholders.
3. Flexible and adaptable to meet the changing demands of the service and commit to continuous improvement. In-person community visits required.
4. Resilient, solution focused, readiness to find ways around barriers.
5. A team player with excellent time management and organisational skills; someone who can ‘Harness the mix’ and actively contribute their ideas, to ensure we are always moving forward.
