THE OPPORTUNITY
Working in a team of environment protection specialists, you will help deliver an effective and efficient planning service by providing specialist advice on a varied caseload of planning applications ranging from householders to major development proposals (depending on your level of experience). You will also guide planning policy relating to heritage and design matters. This role provides experience of working with various teams across Council departments and with elected representatives as well as external partners and stakeholders.
This is a career graded post enabling the post holder to gain experience and career progression. At the top of the scale, the post holder will manage more complicated heritage and design issues. This role is suitable for someone looking to develop their skills in heritage and design or for an experienced Planning Officer looking to take the next step in their career. The post holder will be limited to Grade E until they attain membership of the RTPI, at which point they move to SO1 and may progress up to SO2 without any restriction. Progression beyond SO2 to PO1 is subject to the Special Factors as listed in the Job Description being met and evidenced.

ABOUT YOU
We are seeking to appoint a planning or heritage professional who is dynamic, motivated, and highly organised to handle a busy caseload of specialist heritage and design advice, and support development management to meet Government set targets for determination of applications. You will have recent experience in a development management setting with experience of handling a varied caseload and writing quality reports. You need to be a team player and an excellent communicator with good negotiating skills. Additionally, you will need to be proactive and solution-focused, able to understand and interpret plans and policies, and willing to contribute to the delivery of excellent customer service.
