Anaesthetic and Intensive Care Trust Registrar
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are seeking Anaesthetic and ICM Trust registrars to join our rapidly expanding ACSA-accredited Anaesthetic and Critical Care department. It is anticipated that the post holder will have a minimum of 2 years anaesthetic experience, including basic competency in ICM.This post is available with an immediate start.The post is designed to give invaluable experience especially in Intensive Care and Obstetric Anaesthesia and the programme can be arranged to suit the requirements of the applicant. It would be suitable for those aiming to 'top-up' skills and knowledge prior to commencing Specialty Training in Anaesthesia or Intensive Care Medicine.
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is a split site NHS Trust which provides anaesthetic and critical care services at High Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals. The successful applicants will be expected to work across both sites for daytime activity, although out-of-hours work will be based at either SMH or WH for the duration of the 12-month post.
These are replacement posts which have been created to meet the increasing demands upon the Anaesthetic and Critical Care Department in recent years and to accommodate a 1:10 person out-of-hours rota.All applicants must hold a FULL GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK.
Main duties of the job
The department provides clinical anaesthesia and intensive care services for all the surgical specialties to be expected in a large district general hospital. Programmes can be developed to suit individual requirements. Trust Doctors can continue with preparation for the FRCA examination, if necessary. Attendance at FRCA teaching can be supported where possible.
Successful candidates with the fellowship can expect to contribute to the teaching and supervision of less experienced colleagues. There is an academic half day each month when no elective surgery takes place; these feature audit presentations, clinical governance, presentations by visiting lecturers and meetings with other departments.

Job responsibilities
Daily Commitment:
Trust Doctors assist with the provision of the clinical services for elective and emergency surgical and other procedures, and related investigations, requiring general and regional anaesthesia, sedation, resuscitation, etc. They are on-call for emergencies in accordance with full shift rotas published each week in advance approximating to a 1:10 with prospective cover. 1:10 for long days (8am 9pm) and 1:10 for night duties (8pm 9am). Supervision, assistance or advice appropriate to the candidates level of experience is available at all times.
The daily commitment also includes pre-operative assessment and postoperative care,including the provision of acute pain relief.
Description of Working Pattern
The post complies with the hours limitations of the Agreement on Junior Doctors Hours. Thedepartment operates work patterns according to the expected workload. Out of hours responsibilities involve covering either the obstetric or the intensive care units and giving supervision to the Core trainees in the operating department. The Trust may require you to work at any of the hospital sites, although we avoid the need to work across two sites in 1 day wherever possible. Supervision (Immediate, Local or Distant) is provided by the starred Anaesthetic Consultant of the Day for theatres and the Duty Consultant(s) for ICU on each site. The department uses the CLWRota management system, and supervising/mentoring consultants are clearly indicated via this system during solo anaesthetic lists.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* MB,BS or equivalent Appointee would normally be expected to possess a postgraduate qualification, (or have completed a programme of training and gained sufficient relevant experience to fulfil the requirements of the job plan).
* Completed at least 2 years' full time hospital service in the Core Trainee or higher grade since first obtaining full or limited registration.
* Current ALS certification
* Final FRCA (or equivalent)
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice in the UK
* Any other higher training preferable.
* APLS (or equivalent)
* ATLS (or equivalent)
* Primary FRCA (or equivalent)
* Diploma in anaesthesia (or equivalent)
Experience
* Minimum of 2 years at Core Trainee level in UK or equivalent experience in anaesthetics
* Must have ITU and Obstetric anaesthetic competencies
* Able to work at Trust Registrar level under appropriate level of supervision
Skills, Knowledge and Personal Attributes
