We now have a new opportunity for a Production Team Manager to support our Operations Manager to exceed KPIs by ensuring that business objectives are cascaded through to our manufacturing teams, engaging the ‘hearts and minds’ of the company’s employees to create and sustain a pro-active culture in all disciplines across the business!
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (You may be required to complete some shift work in line with business needs).
So what's the mission?
This role involves leading a team of around 30 employees to ensure the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment, with a strong focus on safety, quality, waste reduction, and operational efficiency. You will oversee process controls, manage quality incidents, and enforce safety protocols, ensuring compliance with all policies and site standards while maintaining a zero-tolerance approach to safety breaches.
You will also manage and develop your team, delivering briefings, fostering engagement, and driving accountability to meet company goals. While primarily office-based (70%), the role requires hands-on involvement (30%) during busy periods, demanding flexibility to adapt to the business’s needs. Strong leadership and people management skills are essential for success in this position.
What are the mission-critical skills?
* Oversee the day-to-day running of concrete production, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, including developing of risk assessments and SOPs.
* Monitor and manage production schedules to meet customer requirements and business targets.
* Lead, motivate, and develop a team of operators to achieve performance goals.
* Organise and conduct training of staff to maintain competency, create an agile workforce, while identifying succession plans for critical roles.
* Identify and troubleshoot operational issues, implementing process improvements where necessary.
* Ensure accurate record-keeping of production data, quality checks, and maintenance activities.
* Ensure autonomous maintenance of plant and equipment, coordinating with maintenance teams as needed.
* Conduct and manage regular inspections, ensuring the timely reporting of faults or safety issues.
Requirements
* Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role within the concrete or wider construction materials industry (desirable).
* Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
* Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Relevant IT skills (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word etc) for operational reporting and communication purposes.
* Knowledge & understanding of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
* Experience in implementing continuous improvement/lean manufacturing techniques e.g. DMAIC, would be an advantage
Preferred Qualifications
* IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate and other relevant qualifications
* Formal continuous improvement/lean manufacturing qualification
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Management or a related discipline.
