We have a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the specialist Renal team at Heartlands hospital. This is a relatively new position and so lots of opportunities for the applicant to develop both themselves clinically and in a leadership position as well as the role itself.
The caseload is mainly supporting working in an outreach capacity for long-term renal patients in the community, enhancing their quality of life and maximising their potential. The role also involves some inpatient support of the Heartlands renal units and facilitating the transition from inpatient to the community.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have to take a lead role in the advanced occupational therapy assessment, management and treatment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical conditions to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised specialist treatment programme. This will be within both an inpatient and community setting. The role consists of supporting patients with long-term renal disease with both their complex physical and psychological conditions. This includes a consultative role with relatives and staff providing advice, recommendations, support, training and instruction as identified.
The successful candidate will need to have experience of working within a MDT as a representative for therapy and lead in the training and development of clinical practice and service.
To provide leadership and management daily to the therapy team within the specialist area, including supervision, appraisal and development. To be involved in the recruitment process for these staff.
The candidate will need to contribute to a seven-day working and extended service hours in specific areas.

Qualifications
Essential
* Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Registered with HPC
* Evidence of CPD including recent post-graduate training relevant to clinical specialty
* Evidence of leadership training
* Good standard of general education including GCSE English and maths grade C or above
* A Levels or equivalent qualification
Desirable
* Fieldwork Educator's certificate or attendance at Clinical Educators Course
Experience
Essential
* Significant post-registration clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this specialty and will include experience in discharge planning.
* Experience of staff management including supervision and development and performance management of staff
* A specialist knowledge across a range of OT treatments, routine and nonroutine, requiring expertise within the field of Occupational Therapy.
* An ability to cope with a range of complex options, find solutions, analyse, compare and decide on appropriate courses of action.
* Understanding of current legislation and application to OT.
* Significant experience in education and clinical training of others.
* Teaching experience to university and multiprofessional groups with evidence of ability to deliver high-quality presentations.
