We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a forward thinking and innovative Deputy Lead within our Radionuclide Physics section.
We are looking for someone who has a broad range of skills and experience in Nuclear Medicine Physics and be able to lead and develop the Molecular Radiotherapy Service within the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. The Trust is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe. Currently, the Trust delivers I131 thyroid cancer ablation therapies, I131 thyrotoxicosis therapies, and radium therapies for prostate cancer.
The postholder will work at an advanced level and be required to interpret and implement evolving national and international policy and regulations to ensure regulatory compliance in the use of radioactive materials for diagnostic imaging and molecular radiotherapy.
Main duties of the job
1. Lead the development of the molecular radiotherapy service in accordance with the clinical and service needs, provide highly specialised advice to ensure procedures are consistent with current legislation and guidance from expert bodies, provide therapy administration and patient-specific advice for complex treatments.
2. Responsible for the leadership and line-management of a team providing highly specialised medical physics support to one or more clinical service providers and to provide specialist clinical services directly.
3. Be responsible for the provision of Medical Physics Expertise and QA assurance to ensure the safe and optimally effective performance of highly specialised equipment.
4. Responsible for all aspects of directly provided highly specialist clinical services, acting as the senior scientific Nuclear Medicine specialist across the Trust and, as contracted, for external customers (e.g., the safety-critical analysis of Nuclear Medicine images as input to key decisions on patient management).
5. Responsible for directing regular Nuclear Medicine multidisciplinary therapy meetings, under the supervision of the Section and Clinical Leads, to ensure complex molecular radiotherapy is administered safely and appropriately, taking into consideration all clinical, radiation protection, and regulatory aspects.
6. Have a patient-facing role in the diagnostic and molecular radiotherapy services, advising clinicians, planning, and delivering therapies.

Other criteria
Essential
* To construct test objects to be used in Nuclear Medicine involving pipetting precise dilutions of different solutions.
* To devise, specify and construct test objects that mimic clinical scenarios.
* To set up, calibrate, and operate highly complex equipment including Nuclear Medicine gamma cameras, gamma counters, dose calibrators, and associated test equipment.
* To be able to use a keyboard and computer to a standard level.
Experience
Essential
* Research and development experience in Nuclear Medicine that includes publications in high-quality scientific journals.
* Evidence of regular updating of knowledge and skills through CPD.
* Evidence of excellence in the advanced theory and practice of the science and technology of Nuclear Medicine that is current and to the highest level.
* Sound knowledge of current national and international ionising radiation guidelines and competence to practice and advise in nuclear medicine radiation protection.
Desirable
* Experience in the development and routine operation of relevant quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
Qualifications
Essential
* Honours degree in Physical Sciences.
* MSc or equivalent in knowledge/experience.
* Registration as a Clinical Scientist.
* Qualifications, knowledge, experience, and certificate to act as Medical Physics Expert within Nuclear Medicine.
* Substantial post-registration training and experience in delivery of a broad range of highly complex scientific and technical services within Nuclear Medicine.
Desirable
* Corporate Membership of IPEM.
* PhD in an area of Nuclear Medicine (or equivalent in knowledge/experience).
