What skills and experience we're looking for
St John’s Catholic Specialist School is a school for young people up to 19 years with special educational needs. Our mission is to support our students to gain the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive in adult life.
We are looking for caring individuals to join a team of experienced and supportive colleagues working with St John’s students at school or college. Every day is different and staff work with pupils with a range of different needs, which include sensory impairments, communication and learning challenges or autism. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team of dedicated professionals who are committed to providing the very best life chances for our students. We also support young people by promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.
Our residential care team support young people outside the school day and a typical shift would be 2pm-11pm with an overnight sleep-in for which an additional allowance is paid. Staff would normally do two shifts per week.
The role includes:
• Supporting students in a wide range of leisure activities
• Developing our young people’s independence and their skills in meal planning, cooking and general organisation skills.
• Supporting students’ health and well-being as well as giving medication
• Enhancing pupils’ communication skills
• Promoting pupils’ self-esteem, independence and participation within the school and wider community
Our ideal candidate will be someone who is compassionate but purposeful, focussing on maximising pupils’ progress someone who works well in a team and is open to developing new skills. We are looking for people who want to make a positive difference every day and are committed to helping all our young people feel respected and valued.
