Job overview
The role is responsible for the provision of finance business partnering services and decision support to the Research Delivery Team of Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.
Main duties of the job
This position is managerially responsible to the Research Delivery Team with professional responsibility to the Corporate Finance team, which provides professional financial advice, support and information for the activities of the Health Board to enable it to effectively and proactively set and manage its budgets and finances to ensure the achievement of financial targets and plans. The post holder will report to the R&D Manager, Cardiff Joint Research Office and will be expected to work closely with researchers to provide support in the delivery of the R&D and Finance agenda.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Production of accurate monthly budget holder reports.
2. Annual outturn forecast.
3. Ad hoc costing work.
4. Supporting and advising budget holders/external funders on all financial matters including investigating financial enquiries.
5. Integrating the annual R&D plan within the IMTP, financial targets and budgets.
6. Assisting the R&D manager in the performance management of Directorate R&D budgets and the production of the monthly return to Healthcare Research Wales.

Qualifications
Essential criteria:
* Fully Qualified Accountant CCAB (Consultative committee of Accountancy Bodies) Degree, AAT, or equivalent. Study towards CCAB professional accountancy qualification, preferably part-qualified. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
Experience
Essential criteria:
* Finance experience within the NHS, public or private sector. Knowledge and experience of financial management and business and strategic planning. Coordination and supervision of work processes.
Desirable criteria:
* General management experience. Experience in the NHS. Experience of R&D Reporting/Funding applications.
Skills
Essential criteria:
* Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Analytical, interpretational and comparative skills. Ability to work autonomously and equally effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrable ability to work on multiple complex tasks simultaneously and produce high-quality work within tight deadlines and resource constraints. IT literate with practical computer application skills covering Microsoft products including advanced level of Excel spreadsheets.
