For nearly 50 years, our charity, the Commonwork Trust, has been driving forward environmental, educational, and social impact work from our beautiful 500-acre estate in West Kent. We’re now looking for a dedicated and dynamic Programme Manager to lead our People and Nature Together project—a new and exciting initiative funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. About the Role The Programme Manager will be at the heart of delivering this ambitious project, which brings local communities into the fold of environmental action. From habitat restoration and citizen science to sustainable land management, this role blends ecological leadership with meaningful community engagement. You’ll also help shape our Future Land Use Strategy, ensuring that biodiversity, climate resilience, and organic food production are in harmony. Key Responsibilities Lead the People and Nature Together project, delivering biodiversity and community engagement outcomes. Shape and contribute to the development of a forward-thinking land use strategy. Manage and deliver a range of environmental grant schemes including Countryside Stewardship and the Sustainable Farming Incentive. Oversee projects such as woodland and grassland restoration, agroforestry, and pond improvements. Develop citizen science, outreach events, and educational programmes that involve local people in real change. Build strong relationships with farmers, landowners, conservation partners, and stakeholders. Monitor the project’s ecological and social impact, ensuring reporting and compliance with funders. Support and manage a team of staff and volunteers. About You We’re looking for someone who shares our values and brings: A background in environmental sciences, sustainable agriculture, or conservation. Experience in land management, biodiversity restoration, or regenerative farming. Knowledge of agri-environment schemes like Countryside Stewardship and the SFI. Strong project and people management skills. A collaborative approach and excellent communication skills. A full driving licence and willingness to travel across the estate.
