The Role
As Legal Counsel, you will be an integral part of the Central Operations Team, reporting directly to the COO. You will apply your legal expertise and commercial mindset to proactively guide and support teams across the business, focusing on identifying and addressing legal and operational challenges, while helping to build the foundations for sustainable, legally sound commercial growth.
You will own all things legal, successfully supporting, growing, and defending Duel and its legal ecosystem through incredible growth. A key focus will be on streamlining and managing enterprise customer contract review processes, ensuring efficient turnaround times, and enabling the business to close great deals faster and with confidence.
Your primary role is to empower others across the business to do their best work while managing business risks effectively. Over time you will be a sign of our success in building a scalable and robust legal operation.

* Act as a commercial legal generalist who is autonomous and people-oriented, taking ownership of various legal projects across the business.
* Engage with the end-to-end supplier management, supporting contract reviews for internal tooling.
* Own and optimize the Enterprise customer contract lifecycle, ensuring efficient review, negotiation, and management of high-value agreements.
* Build scalable processes and templates to standardize and accelerate our enterprise customer contract turnaround.
* Be responsible for HR legal matters, working closely with the People team and seeking outside counsel advice as necessary.
* Own and nourish relationships with law firms and outside contractors.
* Own legal governance, hygiene, and diligence internally.
* Be responsible for legal aspects of fundraising or strategic financial activities.
We’d love to hear from you if…
* You are a UK qualified (or equivalent) solicitor with at least 3-4 years’ PQE.
* You have gained PQE experience in-house in a startup/scaleup environment.
* You have an entrepreneurial acumen with a solid grounding in commercial matters.
* You have a good understanding of data privacy and infosec matters relevant to tech organizations.
* You enjoy people seeking your input and guidance on legal matters.
* You are comfortable handling a wide range of legal issues in a start-up environment.
* You work well autonomously but also understand the importance of teamwork.
* You are pragmatic and thrive in an environment where change is constant.
* You are a problem solver with experience in implementing solutions to complex problems.
* You are excited by and curious about our product.
In-person and remote working balance …
* We have a small HQ in London (Holborn) and a small team in our NYC office.
* Our hybrid working approach is flexible, with priority given to candidates based in/near London who are keen to spend a couple of days a week in the office.
