About us
The Raise Academy is a new school that opened in September 2024, supporting children aged 11-16. The Raise Academy pupils are given the opportunity to be engaged in a wide range of vocational and practical subjects that will give them new opportunities to progress personally, socially, and academically. The curriculum is underpinned by high quality and supportive Maths, English, and Science, and all lessons are taught in small classes of up to 8 pupils, with teachers, learning mentors, and pastoral/teaching assistants.
All members of staff have a commitment and passion to deliver the best possible educational experiences, encouraging all students to dream big and empowering them to lead successful and fulfilling lives in a safe, well-supported atmosphere. Job Description
Job Title: Caretaker (part-time)
Overall purpose of job: To ensure the school premises are clean, secure, safe, and well maintained.
1. Locking and unlocking the buildings, as required.
2. Assisting users with setting up facilities such as chairs, tables, etc.
3. Dealing efficiently with pre-planned maintenance, day-to-day establishment requirements, and problems that may arise.
4. Undertaking minor repairs to fixtures and fittings.
5. Ensuring all plant and equipment is maintained to the required standard.
6. Assisting with the organisation of school refurbishments.
7. Porterage around the school site/s.
8. Monitoring the premises for any hazards, carrying out repairs or reporting problems, where necessary.
9. Ensuring that all stakeholders adhere to the school’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
Health and safety:
1. Taking reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others.
2. Co-operating on all issues involving health and safety.
3. Using the appropriate work equipment provided, in accordance with training and instructions.
4. Carrying out risk assessments.
5. Ensuring all equipment is maintained effectively, in line with statutory requirements.
6. Not interfering or misusing anything provided for health, safety, and welfare.
7. Reporting any health and safety concerns to the Site Manager/School Office Manager, as soon as possible.
8. Ensuring all tasks are completed in a safe manner.
Other duties:
1. Holiday/cover for the Site Manager, as required.
2. Overtime work, when required and in agreement with the School Office Manager.
3. Responding to emergency call-outs and taking action, as required.
4. General cleaning, when required.
5. Supervision of contractors.
6. Painting and decorating, general maintenance, and repairs.
7. Health and safety checks, in line with legislation.
8. Sweeping/salting and keeping clear school footpaths and car parks.
9. Litter collection around the school sites.
10. Any other duties that may be required.
This role requires significant periods of lone working, and as such, the postholder will need to display a high degree of responsibility and professionalism in their work. The ability to use own initiative is essential.
Safeguarding:
1. All staff have a responsibility to ensure that all school Safeguarding Policies are adhered to, at all times and that concerns are raised, in line with School Policy.
2. A commitment to attend suitable training, to support safeguarding and health and safety responsibilities within the school.
3. Attendance at specific staff training sessions, or INSET days, in line with safeguarding and health and safety legislation.
Holidays:
1. Holidays should be taken, in agreement and negotiation with the Site Manager and School Office Manager.
2. Note: Post holders will be expected to be flexible in undertaking duties and responsibilities attached to their post and may be asked to perform duties which reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
Desired Criteria:
1. A H&S qualification.
2. Good Numeracy and Literacy skills.
3. Experience that supports maintenance of an aspect of buildings or premises.
4. Experience that is transferrable to the role.
5. Knowledge and understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice – health and safety.
6. Ability to use a range of tools and equipment, ensuring safe handling and storage.
7. Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
8. Ability to use own initiative.
9. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with internal and external personnel, contractors, and suppliers.
10. Understanding of school roles and responsibilities.
11. Willingness to participate in training and development.
12. Ability to carry out basic repairs, for example, painting and decorating.
