This is a pivotal role that combines technical expertise with problem-solving and collaboration skills to maintain, evolve, and transition our legacy applications in line with business needs. As a Senior Mainframe Developer, you will take a leading role in investigating and resolving system incidents, ensuring our systems meet Service Level Agreements and maintain business continuity. Collaborating with IT colleagues, service partners, project teams, and business stakeholders, you will deliver innovative and efficient solutions that meet evolving business needs. Your work will involve analysing and updating code to implement service and project requests, adhering to agreed timelines and industry standards. You will also play a key part in system migration activities, contributing to the enhancement of internal processes and methods, and ensuring system documentation is clear and accurate. Your expertise will help shape the future of our legacy systems while delivering a high-quality service that supports business-critical functions. This varied role may occasionally require you to work outside of standard office hours to meet project deadlines or business requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving system incidents, as well as managing change requests to maintain system performance and reliability. You will liaise with various teams, including the Service Desk, Developers, Business Areas, and external service providers, to ensure smooth delivery of IT solutions and services. Additionally, you will consult with stakeholders on IT requirements for new business initiatives, ensuring solutions align with the Group IT Strategy. You will review system designs, provide technical recommendations, and work collaboratively to deliver solutions that meet business and technical requirements. Configuring, developing, testing, and implementing technical changes will form a significant part of your work. You will also research and apply new tools and processes to continuously improve system quality and efficiency throughout the software development lifecycle.About youWe are looking for an individual with a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Proven knowledge and experience with Mainframe technologies. Extensive background in Mainframe application support and development. Experience with system migration and decommissioning activities. Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. To succeed in this role, you will need proven proficiency in a range of Mainframe technologies, tools, and programming languages. Essential technologies include z/OS, TSO/ISPF, DB2, CICS, IMS, and MQ, which form the backbone of our systems. Your programming expertise should encompass JCL, PL/1, Cobol, and EasyTrieve, enabling you to develop and maintain complex systems effectively. Additionally, experience with tools such as DfSort, OMC-Flash, CA-JobTrac, and CA-1 is crucial for managing and optimizing Mainframe operations. Internally this role is known as Senior Developer.
