The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional development. Key Responsibilities : Support for SEND Students : Work closely with students who have a range of SEND, providing tailored support to help them engage with the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities. Behaviour Management : Utilize positive behaviour management techniques to foster a calm, respectful, and focused learning environment. Assist in managing challenging behaviour and promote the emotional well-being of students. Collaborate with Teachers : Assist classroom teachers in planning, preparing, and delivering lessons, ensuring that SEND students can access the content in an inclusive and supportive way. Monitor Progress : Observe and track the progress of SEND students, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) on student achievements and areas where further support is needed. Adapt Resources : Adapt learning materials and activities as necessary to accommodate the needs of individual students, ensuring inclusivity in all aspects of learning. Encourage Independence : Support SEND students in developing their independence, helping them gain confidence in their abilities both academically and socially. Personal Care (if needed) : Provide personal care support, as required, to ensure the well-being and safety of students. Safeguarding : Safeguard the welfare of all students, maintaining a high standard of professional practice in accordance with school policies and procedures. Key Skills and Experience : SEND Experience : Previous experience working with students with SEND is highly desirable. This could include experience with students who have autism, learning difficulties, or other special educational needs. Behaviour Management : Proven skills and experience in managing challenging behaviour, with an understanding of effective behaviour management strategies such as de-escalation and positive reinforcement. Teamwork : Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team, supporting teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to ensure that SEND students achieve their full potential. Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with students, staff, and parents. Empathy and Patience : A compassionate approach to supporting students with additional needs, demonstrating patience and understanding. Flexibility : Willingness to adapt to changing needs in the classroom and support students in a variety of settings, including one-to-one and group interventions. Qualifications : A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) is desirable but not essential. A strong commitment to professional development is encouraged. Desirable Skills : Experience in working with students with specific learning difficulties, ASD, or complex needs. Training in behaviour management techniques, such as Team-Teach or other de-escalation methods. First Aid certification or willingness to obtain one.
