Vacancy for Preservation Audio Engineer at the British Library

Join the British Library as they embark on an exciting five-year project to save and share audio archives. The project, Unlocking our Sound Heritage, is part of the British Library’s Save our Sounds programme, and will digitally preserve almost half a million rare and unique recordings, establish a network of audio preservation centres across the UK and encourage more people to enjoy and earn from audio archives.
As a Preservation Audio Engineer, you will be responsible for the digitisation of sound recordings held on endangered media selected for the project, particularly ¼” open reel tape and cassette, and the creation of metadata relating to the transfer process.
Responsibilities:
1. Digitise sound recordings on endangered media.
2. Create metadata related to the transfer process.
Qualifications:
1. Strong, demonstrable knowledge of obsolete sound carriers and current digital formats.
2. Familiarity with audio recording, playback, and transfer technologies.
3. Demonstrable experience of professional audio archival work.
4. Relevant education to degree level or equivalent professional experience in an archive.
