SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Development Technician, to become part of a small support group within the organisation to assist in the manufacture and modification of existing experimental equipment across the site. You should have a mechanical aptitude and ideally experience in the following - hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical assembly, welding and basic electrics. Training will be provided where needed - we particularly value applicants who are enthusiastic to learn new skills and techniques.
Experience Required:
1. Experience of hands-on mechanical engineering. Electrical experience and skills would also be desirable.
2. Provide technical advice to program managers and scientific staff.
3. Create working engineering drawings using CAD.
4. Manufacture components as required for use on site using all the workshop facilities.
5. Learn and support operations in areas within the main test facility.
Key functions:
1. Develop and manufacture test equipment and apparatus for projects to timed schedules.
2. Incorporate safe working procedures in all aspects of the job and maintain a safe working environment.
3. Communicate with other technical and scientific staff on engineering and design matters and advise in the areas of materials and manufacturing processes.
4. Conduct troubleshooting to correctly diagnose design problems and suggest solutions to rectify them.
5. Use standard PC software.
6. Perform other duties in the work environment as assigned.
7. Nurture a team spirit and actively assist the group activity.
