As an Outreach and Class-Based Functional Skills Tutor, you will play a pivotal role in equipping learners with essential maths and English skills to enhance their opportunities for personal growth, work, and further activities. You will deliver engaging, tailored lessons both in the education department at HMP High Down and directly in designated training rooms within Prison Housing Blocks.
This is a supportive, close-knit team environment that prioritizes staff well-being and learner progress. Your responsibilities will include:
* Teaching in group settings (up to 12-14 learners) and 1:1 to Level 1 exam standard.
* Preparing and delivering lessons within working hours, with no extracurricular requirements.
* Creating individualised learning plans and providing constructive feedback.
* Collaborating with colleagues to foster a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Working Hours:
* 37 hours/week over 4.5 days: Monday-Thursday (7:45 AM-4:45 PM), Friday (7:45 AM-12:45 PM).
* Teaching hours: 23-26 hours/week, with the remaining time for preparation and admin work on-site.
You will be part of a team within the functional skills curriculum area, supported by an experienced Hub Manager and a larger education team of 24 staff.
