McDowell Machine Tools are looking for a machine tool engineer to complete a level 3 mechatronics maintenance technician apprenticeship.
The purpose of this role is to join an ever-growing team of fully time-served engineers that have worked within the industry for many years. We really take our time at McDowells to make sure that we get the best engineers recruited, who are some of the best engineers in the machine tool industry. Along with the training you will receive at the AMRC, we will be setting up an in-house apprentice zone, where we can focus on your AMRC learning on relevant equipment on-site. This, alongside the calibre of engineers you will be working with on a day-to-day basis throughout your apprenticeship, will hopefully position you as a best-in-class engineer at the end of the 4 years, giving you the confidence you will require in succeeding these engineers in the future.
Role & Responsibilities
You would be joining at the right time, as the posting will be at Sheffield Forgemasters where they are investing at the moment, so you would be learning on both older and the newest technology in machine tools. There are teams of Crane Drivers, who are only permitted to carry out heavy lifts on-site. A dedicated apprentice zone will be set up for additional training environment. You will work within the stringent health and safety measures that are set out.

McDowell Machine Tools represent Waldrich Siegen and Niles Simmons machines in the UK. We have customers in various sectors: Defence, oil and gas, aerospace, and Nuclear. We are involved in heavy CNC machine projects through installation, service, and application support. We offer full preventative planned maintenance on machines and also laser calibrations. By joining the team at McDowell, you will be involved with all aspects of heavy machine service and maintenance requirements.
Things to Consider:
During the first year, you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training, you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

You will need both of the following:
* GCSE English language C or 4 or above
* GCSE Maths C or 4 or above
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
