Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Manager to join us!
We are a successful firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, and as part of this, we provide payroll services to our clients. This is a key service that interlinks with other areas of the business to ensure client satisfaction.
You will be responsible for end-to-end payroll services for a variety of clients, including auto enrolment, RTI reporting, year-end, starter and leaver administration, and payment runs. You will also liaise with HMRC and pension providers, as well as deal with client queries. You will be responsible for a team of Payroll Administrators, supporting the processing and administration of the department, delegating tasks, and reviewing work regularly. Part of this role is to keep the Partners informed on payroll legislation changes and the performance of the department so they can make informed decisions for the business.
Role & Responsibilities
* Liaising with clients and HMRC
* Managing and processing a portfolio of client payrolls, including day-to-day interaction regarding service and queries
* Managing the workflow and distribution of client payrolls to the team
* Preparing required reports, summaries, and analysis for clients and staff
* Monitoring and resolving employee and client inquiries and concerns related to payroll promptly and accurately
* Maintaining accurate records and documentation associated with your work
* Managing the payroll department, reviewing payrolls processed, and signing off on work
* End-to-end processing of numerous payrolls of varying types (e.g., monthly, weekly, daily, directors, bonus, and commission)
* BACS processing
* HMRC submissions under RTI
* Pension processing and auto-enrolments
* Raising monthly invoices for payroll clients (including any special work or additional duties)
* Regularly reviewing client fees to ensure work is valued correctly and reporting to Partners
* Continuous development and training of the payroll team
* Reviewing team performance in line with company policy
* Assisting the team to make improvements and implement required changes
* Preparing reports on a regular basis for Partners on department performance or as requested, including new and lost clients
* Keeping up to date with all payroll compliance changes, regulations, and laws that may occur, and sharing this with Partners
* Reporting problems that may impact the organization or our clients to the Partners
* Carrying out required compliance and AML checks on clients, including follow-up checks
* Assisting/leading the BACS audit and ensuring all information is gathered and preparations are made
* Creating and sending communications to clients and staff to inform them of legislation changes well in advance
* Daily accurate completion of timesheets
Required Experience
* 5 years or more experience within payroll
* A strong and confident background in payroll, preferably in accountancy practice; however, a good level of industry experience will be considered equally
* Experience with running multiple payrolls and knowledge of different types of pay - weekly, monthly, commission, and bonuses, as well as ad hoc changes
Desired Skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Office
* Proficiency with payroll processing software and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and processes (e.g., Sage)
* Accounts production software such as CCH desirable but not essential
* Ability to show initiative and work within a team
* Ability to build good client relationships
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to build rapport with people at various levels
* Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage your workload in a timely manner to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Qualifications
* CIPP or Qualified by Experience with 5 years or more
