Take on a new leadership challenge at the forefront of Mental Health Care
The Charity
We are St Andrew's, a mental health Charity with the purpose of inspiring hope for those living with complex mental health needs.
We aim for a future with less stigma, more community support, and more research and education. We want to ensure that everyone with complex mental health needs is heard, valued, and has hope for their future.
You will join a team of over 20 Consultant Psychologists and 50 registered Psychologists across our 3 sites (Northampton, Birmingham, and Essex) and our Community Partnerships division. There will be ample support and great opportunities for progression.
Our patients and your colleagues will expect you to embody the St Andrews CARE values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence every single day.
Main Duties of the Job
The LD/ASD Division delivers specialised assessment and treatment to individuals with a diagnosis of intellectual disability and/or autism, along with co-morbid mental health, neurodevelopmental, and challenging behaviour needs requiring hospital treatment. The successful applicant will join a well-established psychology department offering professional support and expertise.
We seek a HCPC registered applied psychologist, Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic, to join our team, providing care for patients. You will work clinically as part of a large Multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, social work, adult education, CAPS, vocation training, and physical health and exercise teams.
You will manage a caseload of patients with the help of an assistant psychologist. Key tasks include assessing, formulating, delivering treatment, and evaluating clinical outcomes. Psychological treatment is provided within a broad cognitive behavioural model, emphasizing psychotherapy that addresses impairments in autism and intellectual disability, emotional and psychiatric disorders, and offence-related interventions aimed at reducing recidivism. Clinical risk assessment and management are major aspects of this role, and familiarity with standardised methods for assessing clinical risks is essential.
About Us
St Andrews is committed to moving patients into the community as soon as possible, with several bespoke properties on-site for individuals transitioning from hospital to community. Part of your caseload may involve working with these patients to help prepare them for their transition.
Knowledge and experience of working with individuals diagnosed with Autism and/or Learning Disability is advantageous, as is experience with major mental illness, trauma, and offending behaviour, as many of our patients have multiple presenting problems. You will have access to a larger group of counselling, clinical, and forensic psychologists in the Charity for consultation, with opportunities for peer collaboration across other clinical specialities. The Charity supports innovation and research, providing opportunities for research and development in this role.
