University of Cambridge Information Services (UIS) is creating a new Network Operations team and is offering an exciting opportunity for an on-site Network Operations Technician to join us. Under the guidance of the Network Operations Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting the network environments within the University, including: The University Data Network, the main backbone network. Access networks in departments and colleges. The University's internet connections to its ISP, Janet. The University Wireless Service. The Data Centre Network located in multiple sites. The University DDI (DNS, DHCP and IP Address Management) system. As a member of the team, your responsibilities will include: Supporting network monitoring and maintenance systems to ensure the smooth operation of the networks. Responding quickly and efficiently to network outages, participating in on-site remediation, and maintaining good communication with customers and colleagues. Handling incidents raised by customers, providing second/third line support for tickets escalated to the network team. Ensuring processes are followed, updated, and shared throughout the team. You should be able to develop and maintain knowledge in your field and have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. Additionally, the following knowledge, skills, and experience would be beneficial: Demonstrable experience of working in a dynamic IT environment Evidence of managing technical activities and tasks assigned Evidence of working at an operational level to deliver core technologies Strong ability to build relationships at all levels of the organisation. As this role supports physical infrastructure operations, it is primarily on-site and will involve travel around the University based in Cambridge, UK.
