ENGINEER I-ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Description
To design and evaluate energy-related projects or programs to reduce energy costs or improve energy efficiency during the designing, building, or remodeling stages of construction. May specialize in electrical systems; heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; green buildings; lighting; air quality; utility metering; water conservation projects; or energy procurement.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Performs building audits per the Department of Energy Management's Building Operational Plan.
* Knowledge and proficiency in utility accounts with billing, tracking, and cost allocation by user space with applicable software.
* Performs computer analysis of buildings to evaluate energy savings potential due to conservation measures, and to budget for utilities.
* Conducts jobsite observations, field inspections, or sub-metering to collect data for energy conservation analyses.
* Manages energy conservation projects including development of scope, budgets, schedules, and general management of projects.
* Assists customers with utility questions/requests and provides timely responses.
* Inspects or monitors energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or daylighting systems to determine energy use or potential energy savings.
* Manages the development, design, or construction of energy conservation projects to ensure acceptability of budgets and timelines, conformance to federal and state laws, or adherence to approved specifications.
* Enters energy data and evaluates energy usage and allocations in the Energy Accounting System.
* Maintains close contacts with UAB Accounting, utility companies, and others as required.
* Evaluates and recommends new energy savings.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
STARTING ANNUAL RATE OF PAY: $52,555 - $60,000 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may
NOT substitute for education requirements.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive a vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession of a valid driver's license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Understanding of energy efficiency principles and practices.
* Ability to evaluate and recommend energy-saving solutions for new and existing projects.
* Familiarity with electrical systems, HVAC systems, lighting systems, and building automation.
* Knowledge of green building standards (LEED).
* Awareness of utility metering, water conservation techniques, and energy procurement processes.
* Proficiency in energy modeling software and simulation tools.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to conduct energy audits and assessments.
* Effective project management skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
PERSONAL:
Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
* Lifting, moving, and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
* Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.
* Performing tasks requiring bending, standing for long periods of time, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
* Working in confined spaces.
* Working within extreme temperature ranges.
