Dental Therapist

£38,548 - £44,234 per annum depending on experience + 25% gratuity upon contract completion

King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) provides exceptional healthcare services to the Falkland Islands community. With three modern surgeries equipped with digital radiography and a small laboratory, the dental team offers a comprehensive range of services including primary care, public health initiatives, and emergency dental care. Operating under UK standards and adapting to local needs, the team prides itself on delivering quality care in an incredible location.
The Role
As a Dental Therapist, you'll provide a full range of restorative and preventative care, contribute to public health initiatives, and ensure high-quality services in accordance with the General Dental Council (GDC) scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough dental examinations and assessments.
Take and interpret radiographs for effective treatment planning.
Perform periodontal treatments to manage gum disease.
Provide restorative treatments, including fillings and sealants.
Safely extract deciduous (baby) teeth.
Apply fluoride treatments and other preventive care measures.
Collaborate on developing and implementing the Falkland Islands Oral Health Strategy.
Lead community engagement initiatives to promote oral health.
Engage with schools and community groups to expand the dental service's reach.
The Package
Fixed term contract of up to 4 years,
Salary range: £38,548 to £44,234 (starting salary will be dependent upon experience),
A 25% gratuity (lump sum payment) on completion of the contract term,
A work week of 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday, with no on-call or out-of-hours requirements,
41 days of paid leave: 30 days of annual leave and 11 days of public/government holiday,
Relocation allowance to help with moving costs,
Free flights for the employee and dependents at the beginning and end of the contract, plus annual return flights after the first year.
Good quality furnished accommodation at reasonable rental rates.
The Ideal Candidate

Degree in Dental Therapy & Hygiene BSc (or recognised equivalent).
Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the UK General Dental Council (GDC).
Relevant work experience, ideally in a UK NHS or similar practice.
Strong communication skills to explain care needs effectively to a diverse population.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a busy dental team.
Note: This role is available only to candidates whose primary qualification is as a dental therapist, as per UK GDC regulations.

The hospital is one in which clinical staff have the time, resources, and support to provide the highest standards of care and to develop their skills. In addition to being supported to practise with a broad scope, clinical staff are encouraged to develop particular areas of clinical expertise.
