An opportunity has emerged for an applied psychologist to join Health & Justice Services for 12 months fixed term contract to cover maternity.
The role involves working collaboratively with service users who have learning disabilities and/or autism and forensic needs through the criminal justice system. In addition, the role involvesworking closely with secure services and provider collaboratives to promote timely discharges and support transitions to the community.
We are seeking a HCPC registered psychologist and welcome applicants from recently qualified psychologists (band 7) and experienced psychologist (band 8a). Banding with be aligned with experience and skills.
Applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis. In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of the Forensic Outreach Liaison Service based within the North Yorkshire area within Health & Justice services. The role involves completing risk and psychometric assessment, formulating complex presentations and delivery of governed psychological interventions. Supervising other professionals to deliver interventions is an essential part of role. The post holder will be a key member of the leadership team influencing psychological thinking whilst supporting the Trust values. Furthermore, they will be central figures in promoting and supporting team wellbeing and resilience.
Skills and training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) would be an advantage, but not essential. Close liaison with the PBS Lead and the services Dialectical Intensive Therapies Team are central to effective treatment planning. Close working with secondary ALD teams is crucial therefore, skills in consultation and offering advice/supervision to professionals from other teams working with complex and contentious cases is important.
The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to audit, service evaluation and research as part of service development, attending conferences, presenting, and disseminating best practice. The post also offers excellent opportunities for peer support/ supervision, CPD, and teaching/ training opportunities within psychology and to other members of the MDT.

The psychology team within SOTT/FOLS currently comprises of one Principal Applied Psychologist, one Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist, one Specialist Applied Psychologist, a Trainee Forensic Psychologist, regular Trainee Clinical Psychologists, and two Higher Assistant Psychologists. The Psychology team meet for fortnightly huddles and have regular away days to ensure connectedness, standard working, and effectiveness.
The service has close links with other psychology specialisms across the Trust and there are strong links to the Teesside Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme with the specialty providing academic, research and clinical experience components.

a. All clinical. 80% of the 450 supervised clinical practice hours (360 hours)
Trainee clinical psychologists are eligible to apply for and to be shortlisted for interview and to be offered qualified posts when they are in their third year of training, as they will have completed their core clinical competencies by this stage of the course.

1. Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
2. HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
3. Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice - Band 8a
4. Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
5. Trained in care co-ordination
6. Evidence of continuing professional development
