The main responsibility of a Clerk of Works will be to undertake regular inspections of construction work, such as residential developments, to monitor progress and quality, verifying compliance with contractual drawings.
Projects will largely involve new build and refurbishment projects, with a strong emphasis on residential sector developments.
The business operates nationwide but is specifically looking to hire a Clerk of Works who can manage sites around the Yorkshire area. Ideal candidates will be located near York, Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, and surrounding areas.
The role is offered on a permanent PAYE basis only. A driving license is essential for this position.
Responsibilities and Duties
The duties of this Clerk of Works, Building Inspector, include:
* Overseeing residential building works on allocated sites to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion of project deliverables.
* Ensuring assurance requirements are met according to regulatory compliance and client specifications.
* Completing inspections to identify and record defects throughout construction and post-completion, and communicating these issues to the appropriate parties.
* Staying updated with building regulations and compliance standards.
* Demonstrating a good understanding of the building and housing industry, including basic technical and construction awareness, materials, trades, methods, and legal requirements.
* Preparing high-standard written reports and submitting them in a timely manner.
* Organizing snagging and end-of-defect inspections with clients.
Desired Skills and Experience
* Experienced construction professional with a background in roles such as Clerk of Works, Employers Agent, Site Inspector, Quality Control Inspector, Building Control/Warranty Inspector, or Site Manager.
* Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience, capable of working independently and competently. Additional experience is advantageous.
* Proven ability to write professional reports to a high standard.
* Up-to-date technical knowledge and understanding of construction practices.
* Excellent organizational skills to manage and prioritize workload effectively.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Enthusiasm for career development and maintaining relevant knowledge.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
* Clerk of Works ICWIC accredited or similar qualification is highly desirable.
* A formal qualification in construction, engineering, or project management is advantageous.
