The main function of the Prove Design Department at Caterpillar Desford is the assembly and maintenance of prototype machines or new design features for testing and development. Our work helps to ensure that new machines meet performance & durability targets and product compliance requirements before being introduced into a production environment. We also support investigations into field service issues with our fleet of machines.
As a Prove Design Technician you will support new product introduction (NPI) through the build of new BCP machines according to Engineering drawings and requirements. Your work will validate new and prototype components, systems, and machines according to engineering protocols while maintaining safe working practices. You will be expected to perform a variety of tasks under limited supervision to validate designs, assembly processes, and proper operation of BCP machines. You will also support investigation and resolution of quality issues by performing necessary reworks and repairs when issues are found.
We are looking for open-minded people who are excellent problem solvers, have an ability to learn quickly, and can demonstrate attention to detail. We can offer support, guidance, and training to people who are interested but have concerns about not meeting every skill to the required level.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Adhere to the Company's Health and Safety policy and safe working practices.

3. Identify with Caterpillar's belief in the value of continuous improvement and a team-based culture.
4. Use mechanical knowledge to identify problems and communicate design change suggestions to engineers.
5. Maintain computer records of work tasks issues encountered, and provide reports to Engineering and Quality departments to support investigation and resolution.
6. Manufacture simple parts, requiring experience of cutting, bending, and fabrication techniques.
7. Provide maintenance, repair, and testing support for field follow machines.
8. Ability to effectively communicate technical detail with internal and external customers, both written and verbal.
9. Undertake training and further learning as required for the job and the BCP Safety Recipe.
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
1. Extensive Product Assembly or Prove Design experience.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of machine operation and assembly processes.
3. Ability to work closely with others, supporting team participation to achieve agreed objectives.
4. Be self-motivated and able to manage time with limited supervision; able to cope with periods of demanding workload.
5. Show initiative, strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
6. Must be flexible and support with extra hours if required.
7. Ability to follow specified instructions, schematics, and work orders to complete tasks.
8. Ability to make decisions and have accountability for actions.
9. High level of attention to detail.
Top Candidates will also have:
1. Knowledge of electrical/electronic and hydraulics systems.
2. Welding experience beneficial.
