Substitute Bus Drivers
Job Description
STARTING WAGE: Per salary schedule
HOURS OF WORK: From a maximum of 30 minutes before leaving campus for Route, to a maximum of 30 minutes after returning to campus from Route, for bus maintenance and pre-trip/post trip report writing, depending on weather and student situations.
DAYS OF WORK: Monday through Friday when students are present at school.
PTO / SICK LEAVE: 18 hours of PTO - Unused hours can accumulate to 45 hours of sick leave.
BEREAVEMENT: 15 hours per school year (non-cumulative)
PAID HOLIDAYS: Paid Holidays to include Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
WEATHER / UNEXPECTED CLOSURES: Up to 5 weather related school closure days per year (non-cumulative), paid leave for unexpected school closures (non-weather related)
RETIREMENT: 9.78% of wages are deducted from paychecks for deposit in a retirement account. The District matches that amount at 9.8778%. The State also makes a 2% contribution.
OTHER: AFLAC Insurance is available for life, health, dental, vision, and disability. A 403 retirement plan is available. Required physical exams will be paid for by the district.
REQUIREMENTS: Valid Nebraska School Bus Driver’s Permit (CDL) and annual physical examination as set forth by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. The board of education reserves the right to require a bus driver or substitute bus driver to undergo a reexamination physical any time, at its discretion. An unacceptable driving record, as determined by the board of education or non-approval by the school district’s insurance carrier, shall result in immediate termination of employment as a bus driver.
DUTIES:
* Abide by the regulations as set forth by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles and operating school vehicles in a safe and legal manner at all times. Use of electronic devices is not allowed while driving.
* Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as prescribed by the school district.
* Fill vehicle with gas/fuel.
* Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle inside and out (including windows). Inspect and clear the inside of the bus of all rubbish, dirt, or debris after each route and each activity trip.
* Ensure that student medical information notebooks are current and in the vehicle.
* Keep on schedule, maintaining consistent arrival and departure times.
* Maintain discipline of student riders and report problems to the Principal.
* Communicate immediately to the superintendent any problems concerning a vehicle’s operation or patron complaints.
* Schedule and deliver vehicle for routine repairs.
* Maintain vehicle records including mileage and mechanical work done.
* Maintain a cooperative working relationship with all school district employees, students, and patrons.
* Conduct school bus evacuation drills as prescribed by school district policy.
* May serve as a Transportation Director in completing the following tasks:
* Make sure other vehicles are maintained (oil changes, tire rotations, etc.), scheduling appointments when necessary.
* Keep records of maintenance on all vehicles.
* Call repair shops to expedite repairs.
* Put insurance cards in all vehicles.
* Clean interior and exterior of vehicles at least once per school year.
* Assign drivers to all school activities using an equitable rotation.
* Report to Superintendent on repairs over $2,000.00.
* Perform other tasks as assigned.
