About The Service
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cardiff Education Inclusion Service Hearing Support / Deaf Team as a Teacher of the Deaf.
As part of the Inclusion Service, we are a team of experienced and qualified Teachers of the Deaf plus specialist Teaching Assistants, providing a service for children/young people with a diagnosed hearing loss and are looking for someone to complement and fit in with our friendly team.
About the job
You will be responsible for ensuring that the educational and developmental progress of children/young people who are Deaf and have a hearing loss are met through partnership with families/carers, early years settings, schools, colleges, and NHS services by providing high quality advice, effective use of technology, and capacity building of staff to meet the needs of all learners.
You will be working with Health professionals and parents/carers from the point of diagnosis to support effective use of listening technology, language development, and social emotional wellbeing.
The successful applicant will join and support a team of experienced and enthusiastic Teachers of the Deaf, to manage and prioritise an assigned caseload.
The successful applicant will work within a range of settings across Cardiff supporting children and young people who may have a range of hearing losses and Additional Learning Needs to enable them to become confident young people and able to achieve their potential.
They will be expected to perform the tasks and duties of a specialist teacher in line with the Additional Learning Needs Code for Wales 2020, and the Quality Standards for Specialist teaching and support services for deaf children guidelines for professionals.
You will be expected to travel between settings and daily access to your own vehicle is an essential requirement.
What We Are Looking For From You
* Educated to degree level and hold Qualified Teacher Status.
* Qualified to teach deaf children or willing to complete training within 3 years.
* Proven track record as a successful teacher and able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of relevant high-quality teaching and learning.
* Knowledge and understanding of best practice in relation to meeting the needs of children and young people with ALN.
* Ability to model excellent practice and lead by example.
* Be able to evaluate practice and evidence the impact of interventions.
* Evidence of positive working relationships with families, children/young people, educational environments, and other professionals.
* British Sign Language level 1 level 2 would be desirable or willingness to train.
* Committed to continuing professional development.
* Ability to use data and performance measures to evaluate practice, evidence outcomes, and identify areas for development.
* Able to travel independently - current driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.
Additional information
Salary: Main Pay Scale / Upper Pay Scale (£32,433 - £49,944 per annum) + 2 ALN points if qualified or 1 ALN point if working towards qualification (£2,728 - £5,379 per annum)
