We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our expanding Vehicle Restraint System team, carrying out repairs to damaged systems and installing new upgraded VRS systems. Excellent pay rates are available for the right candidates, depending on experience. As this team is continuously growing, all experience levels will be considered, and full training will be provided.
Flexibility is required, as working away from home occasionally will be part of the role, along with involvement in the Winter Maintenance Rota.
The North West Trunk Road Unit covers approximately 1,422 km of trunk roads through some of the most scenic parts of the country, including 1,501 bridges and structures such as the Kessock Bridge and the Skye Crossing.
The unit's coverage spans from Thurso and Wick in the north to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.
The Installation Operative, reporting to the Electrical Manager, should be experienced in roadworks with skills to perform various road maintenance tasks; training can be provided if needed. A minimum of an LGV Class 2 Licence (HGV2), NHSS 12D, experience with excavators below 10T, lorry loader, and slinger signaller are preferred.
This is a full-time role, and a valid driving licence is essential.
Role includes:
* Installation and removal of temporary and permanent crash barriers and traffic management signs
* Installation and fixing of road furniture
* Operation of power tools, small plant, and machinery
* Driving vehicles, including those with attachments like tractors
* Supporting VRS team members
* Ensuring health and safety for the public, colleagues, and yourself
* Participating in standby and winter maintenance rotas
* Winter duties such as fitting gritter bodies, driving gritters, and spreading salt
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Willingness to undertake training and progress in the role
* Achievement of H&S CLSA 34X and CITB H&S touchscreen tests
* Experience with small plant equipment
* Holding relevant tickets for plant, traffic management, and health & safety is advantageous
* A clean driving licence, preferably LGV2, is required
* Flexibility for shift work
