Clinical To offer highly specialist assessments and consultations to patients with complex mental health difficulties. To provide relational psychotherapy (e.g. psychodynamic psychotherapy) to individual patients and groups (if the post holder has relevant training in group psychotherapy). To provide a detailed formulation of the service users difficulties following each assessment / consultation and a written summary of the assessment with suggested recommendations. To liaise with Recovery teams, provide consultancy and identify appropriate care pathways for patients with complex needs within secondary services. To work jointly with multidisciplinary colleagues within secondary services offering consultations, case management and case-based discussion and providing expert advice. To participate in clinical supervision and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the B&NES Psychological Therapies Service. If required, to provide clinical supervision to postgraduate doctors in training in psychiatry contribute in that way to the mandatory training of psychiatry trainees in the Severn Postgraduate Medical Education footprint, B&NES Psychological Therapies Service staff and staff working in the Recovery team. Clinical Governance To support the Head of Therapies in B&NES in the development and implementation of effective Clinical Governance across the B&NES Psychological Therapies Service. To support and participate in multidisciplinary clinical audit in the service. To promote the use of effective interventions in the service. To liaise with other disciplines and agencies to ensure that best practice is shared. Training and Staff Development If required, to supervise postgraduate doctors in training in psychiatry and B&NES Psychological Therapies Service in their provision of group and individual therapy. If required, to offer training in psychological approaches to a wide range of other staff including staff in the multidisciplinary team and to staff from other parts of the service. If required, to collaborate with colleagues to develop and offer training courses. To agree a plan for personal development with the B&NES Psychological Therapies Service line manager and participate in review. Research and Development If required, to participate in Clinical Audit projects in the B&NES Psychological Therapies Service. To encourage a culture of evidence based practice in all parts of the Service. To contribute to B&NES Psychological Therapies Service reporting of activity on a yearly basis. Most challenging part of this role Working with service-users with challenging and risky behaviour who have severe and enduring mental health problems and who can be acutely distressed. An emotionally demanding job that requires good personal and professional boundaries, high levels of concentration and confidence in managing the distress of others. To be able to respond sensitively and effectively to the competing demands of clinical work, team support and professional responsibilities. To engage in intensive therapy with service users who may be risky, difficult to engage or highly distressed.
