Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has around 1.2 million patient contacts a year.
We provide healthcare to the people of Swindon and the surrounding areas, offering the latest treatments and care in hospital, in the local community and in people's own homes.
We provide a range of specialist services from the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, located just off junction 15 of the M4.
Our large and modern hospital has around 480 beds, numerous outpatient clinics, CT and MRI scanners, maternity services, an Intensive Care Unit, an Urgent Care Centre and a 24/7 Emergency Department.
We also support people to stay well and out of hospital, to manage long term conditions and provide care in local community facilities and in people's own homes across Swindon.

Band 7 Highly Specialised Respiratory Physiologist
We are seeking a Highly Specialised Respiratory Physiologist to join our team on a 12 month fixed term basis.
As an autonomous practitioner you will undertake and report on a range of routine and advanced lung function tests and procedures within the Respiratory Physiology Department, in accordance with ARTP criteria. There will be Rotation between external and internal sites.
Advert
Calibration, monitoring, safety and quality control of all equipment within the Lung Function Unit.
You will provide highly specialist advice, teaching and training to both physiologists and other health care professionals within the multi-disciplinary team.
To review, develop and facilitate the implementation of standard operating procedures and guidelines within the department in accordance with current research, and national / local guidelines.
Financial planning, capacity and demand reviews and understanding of budget management.
To keep abreast of current advances and best practice in Respiratory Physiology, in order to provide an excellent quality patient care service, through cost effective innovation within the ever changing healthcare industry.
To plan and undertake a range of simple and complex respiratory diagnostic tests in accordance with ARTP criteria/local and agreed standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsible for the safety of patients at all times in lung function unit through risk management and by complying with equipment safety, maintenance and infection control policies.
Responsible for data entry, text processing and storage of data using a computer based data entry system.
Provide an interpretation of data collected on a written report within a standardised format to ensure clarity and consistency of presentation.
Ensure data and reports obtained from clinical investigations are issued and communicated in a timely manner to referring physicians depending on their clinical urgency.
Support the development of new procedures and investigations and develop staff accordingly.
Maintain a current ILS certification.

Essential criteria
* BSc Honours Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or equivalent
* ARTP part 1 and 2 examination or relevant experience
* RCCP registration

* Teaching and assessor qualification
* Adult ILS
* MSc in a Clinical Physiology subject relating to respiratory medicine
Experience
Essential criteria
* Able to demonstrate ongoing professional development and up to date clinical practice
* Able to perform and trouble shoot the full range of respiratory investigations
* Previous experience in Lung Function Testing and experience of working at Band 6 or currently working as a band 7
* Considerable experience of working as an independent practitioner
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Highly specialist knowledge across the full range of respiratory investigations, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience
* Able to demonstrate an awareness of current issues in respiratory medicine
* Ability to trouble-shoot testing equipment and perform basic maintenance
