The Leicester Children’s Hospital Paediatric Surgery Team have a vacancy for two Trust Grade Doctors to start as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity for a doctor with experience of working at a junior level in paediatric surgery to join the team. This post has been developed in order to support the continued delivery of high quality care to children across the Leicester Children’s Hospital. The successful candidates will join our team of paediatric surgeons and paediatricians and to provide a wide range of clinical services across the spectrum of paediatric surgery and urology.
Many of our wards have undergone a full or partial refurbishment in the last 24 months & we have benefitted from the construction of a brand new Paediatric Theatre Reception and Paediatric Recovery area, with plans for an integrated single site Children’s Hospital accommodating all Children’s services on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site, providing a unique time to come and join our team. Additionally, the Trust has recently opened a new £42 million Emergency Floor which includes a new Paediatric Emergency Department and a Childrens short stay unit (CSSU). (this can stay but not all of it is factually accurate such as CSSU)
The Paediatrics surgery specialty serves the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, as one of the busiest Acute and General Paediatric centres in the UK. Our Children’s Assessment Unit (CAU) currently sees around 14,000 children a year and this is in addition to the children who attend our Paediatric Emergency Department (PED). The speciality also provides tertiary level care to children and young people from across the region including areas of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. Outreach clinics and day case operating take place in a number of centres outside of UHL.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
· high-quality care for all,
· being a great place to work,
· partnerships for impact, and
· research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
· we are compassionate,
· we are proud,
· we are inclusive, and
· we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
Appropriate experience in Paediatric Surgery is essential, and although the role is a non-training role, previous post-holders have used the experience gained to help their application to the national training program and we have a good record in this area with a number of our previous Trust Grades being successful in getting onto the training scheme
