Chelmer Village Surgery is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with clinical responsibilities. The role is offered on a part time basis for 4 sessions/2 days OR 2 sessions/1 day a week. Main duties of the role: Undertake new patient health checks. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately, Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics. Act as a chaperone as required. Undertake venepuncture (training given). Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation. Provide support during minor operations as required. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate. Carry out ECGs as requested. About the Candidate The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we are only looking for applications from those with previous primary care experience. All applicants should have the following skills and qualifications: Qualifications and experience - these are a requirement to be considered for the role: Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC. Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent. Experience of working within a GP practice. Essential knowledge, skills and experience: Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy. Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills. Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues. Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong organisational and time management skills.
