The team work a shift rota ensuring the reception is open 365 days a year and afternoons / evenings, our busiest period, is always covered with the most staff.
Our Specimen Reception team receive patient specimens from the hospital wards, local clinics and GPs. These are sorted and booked into the laboratory information management system (LIMS) before being passed on to the laboratory for testing.
This role requires attention to detail and an ability to follow strict protocols when receiving and booking in samples.
The reception team book in thousands of samples every day. You will be handling but not testing a wide variety of blood and other sample types. This is not a clinical or laboratory based role.
Main duties are:
• Booking in of samples using IT system
• Sorting of samples
• Liaising with wards and other service users
• Reporting of quality issues
