Job summary Critical Care have opportunities for Health Care Assistants interested in supporting care for the critically ill patient. The successful candidates will work in the Critical Care Directorate which encompasses 33 critical care beds for level 2 and 3 patients, across three units based at JCUH. James Cook Hospital is a tertiary centre and the critical care units admit patients from many areas requiring input from multiple specialist teams. We welcome applicants with experience working as an HCA in a hospital setting. Critical care experience is not essential as training is provided. You will be supported in learning the role by a team of experienced critical care HCAs. Personal and professional development is encouraged, and the environment is conducive to learning, with an established Clinical Education team based on the units. HCAs are expected to undertake the trusts care certificate course to support individual and team development. Main duties of the job Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications. Band 2 requirements - willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role. Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9) Care certificate Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3; - Theoretical knowledge - Experience of a range of care and related procedures - clinical observations - knowledge of relevant legislation There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications.
