Millbrook Library is seeking a Project Archivist for a grant-funded initiative to preserve, arrange, and describe the Bennett College Collection (50 cubic linear feet). This collection documents the 90+ year history of Bennett College in Millbrook, NY, and includes papers, photographs, yearbooks, and assorted ephemera. The Project Archivist will be responsible for processing the collection and creating a finding aid in Encoded Archival Description (EAD) format. This is a temporary position funded by the New York State Archives Documentary Heritage Program, requiring a total of 280 hours (approximately 10-15 hours per week), to be completed during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 10 AM – 6 PM).
Responsibilities:
● Appraisal and description of materials.
● Writing, researching, and editing collection finding aid, Encoded Archival Description (EAD), and web content.
● Re-housing collection materials into archival folders and boxes.
● Working with library staff to document processing guidelines for future acquisitions.
Qualifications:
● MLIS degree or currently enrolled student
● Previous hands-on experience working with archival collections (including part-time positions, internships, etc.)
● Familiarity with archival standards for preservation, arrangement, and description
● Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
● Strong organization and time-management skills; attention to accuracy and detail is essential.
