It is the largest terminal of its kind in the UK, handling 1.3 million tonnes of timber and forest products a year. The Port of Sheerness is a key commercial port for South East England. It is part of a unique and innovative port network operated by our client; connecting the UK and Ireland with the rest of the world. Purpose of the role As a Chargehand (Port Operative) within our Paper Operations, you will be part of a proactive and safety driven team, delivering first class service to our customers and leading and developing your operational team with Health and Safety, Customer service and quality at the forefront of every plan and decision. Expectations Responsible your own Health and Safety and that of those working around you. Responsible for day-to-day goods receipt, storage, pick and despatch maintaining a high level of stock integrity and that Customer requirements are met. Liaise with vessel operations to co-ordinate an effective loading / discharge operation. Main Responsibilities Ensure full compliance with Safety 365 at London Medway. Work in flexible manner to support managers, colleagues and other areas of the business within the Port. Ensure any MHE, vehicle or structural damage is reported, investigated and documented. Flexible working attitude is required to support the team on process to ensure timely completion of all tasks and duties. Represent the department in a professional manner with internal and external customers. Liaise with Team Leaders, Planning and Operations Managers on a daily basis to understand the day to day priorities. Adopt a culture of continuous improvement. Ensure we provide an industry leading service to our customers (24/7 - 365 days per year). Demonstrate the behaviours and standards expected in line with our Core values. Be prepared to adopt new approaches and demonstrate effective communication.
