Job Description:
37 hours (Band 3)
Out Patient activity and day case admissions to the children’s hospital have increased dramatically over the last few years. As a result, we have redesigned the skill mix within our unit to incorporate band 3 Health Care Support Workers working across both units.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual who has proven skills in effectively communicating with children and their families, and previous experience as a Health Care Support Worker in an acute children’s environment. An SVQ/NVQ level 3 or HNC in Children and Young People’s Health & Wellbeing would be an advantage but not essential, as targeted training can be delivered to upskill the person with the desired personal qualities and experience. If the successful candidate does not possess competencies required for the role at interview, they will be appointed to band 2 initially. Upon successful completion of the training and competencies, banding will be uplifted to band 3.
You must be able to work well within different teams of people and be able to plan and organise your workload within the realms of the job description.
The post holder will be involved in the care of both medical and surgical patients in the Day case unit, including admissions, measurement of vital signs, and transfers to and from theatre or scan. The post also involves attending to children in the outpatient department and undertaking the relevant observations required. The post holder will be supervised directly and indirectly by a registered nurse who is responsible for the delegation of work. The post holder will be required to facilitate community Hubs where measurements of vital signs will be undertaken. When in community Hubs, you will be working alongside another HCSW who will be Phlebotomy trained. There will be opportunities to upskill to allow phlebotomy training.
This post will require excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, and a level of fitness that enables the staff member to be on their feet for much of the day.
Working hours currently would be Monday-Friday between the hours of 07.30 and 18.00. Days worked would need to be flexible (i.e., applicants who can only manage fixed days will not be considered), and the hours are likely to be worked across 4 days in the week.
