About the Role
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Senior Management Accountant will play a hands-on role in managing financial reporting and overseeing a small finance team. This position offers a unique opportunity to be involved in process improvements, financial analysis, and decision support, making it ideal for candidates looking to enhance their commercial acumen and leadership skills.
The role involves working closely with commercial managers across the UK, providing valuable insights into profitability, cost control, and variance analysis. You will have the chance to influence key business decisions by leveraging financial data to drive better outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow forecasts, and variance analysis
2. Lead and mentor a small finance team, ensuring high standards of reporting and financial control
3. Work closely with commercial managers, providing financial insights and decision support to drive business performance
4. Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy
5. Analyse profitability across different projects, contracts, and service lines, contributing to strategic planning and growth
6. Conduct cost and variance analysis, using financial data to inform budgeting and forecasting processes
7. Act as a business partner to non-financial departments, fostering collaboration and offering financial expertise
8. Participate in ad hoc financial projects and presentations to senior management as required
About You
The ideal candidate will be a qualified or nearly qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with proven experience in preparing management accounts. You should be commercially astute, with a proactive approach to improving processes and driving business performance. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work closely with stakeholders at all levels are essential for success in this role.
Key Requirements:
1. Qualified or finalist accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
2. Proven experience in preparing management accounts and financial reporting
3. Strong commercial insight and experience in profitability reporting and variance analysis
4. Ability to lead, mentor, and oversee the work of a small finance team
5. Experience improving financial processes and systems
6. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
7. Proficient in accounting software and Excel (experience with ERP systems advantageous)
